What was your childhood ambition?
To be a pole-vaulter
How did you get into corporate communications?
I covered someone’s maternity leave as a junior press officer and worked my way up
What do you love about it?
Loads. The variety, seeing a good idea come to fruition, working with impressive people, the social side, handling a difficult issue
What three qualities do you look for in recruits to your team?
It depends on the level I’m recruiting for but basically enthusiasm, team fit and inquisitiveness
Who has been your best advisor or mentor and why?
Phil Wilson-Brown at RSA. He was a great board level adviser, a strong believer in integrated communications who always had time for people and gave good advice. He also trusted me enough to send me to Canada for four months to run the comms function there. A fantastic opportunity where I learnt so much both about myself and about work.
Which living person do you most admire?
Do you possess any hidden talents?
I’ve been part of several Guinness World Record attempts, one of which involved being the back end of a pantomime reindeer
