Facebook claims automated systems disabled boycott BP page by accident

The removal of a Facebook page calling for an international boycott of oil giant BP on Monday was a technical hiccup, insist Facebook officials.
Boycott BP vanished for nine hours until a 'manual review determined the profile was removed in error'. All content has now been restored.
The page was launched in response to the catastrophic oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico and in protest against the company's perceived inactivity in the wake of the emergency. It provides a forum for protesters and also defenders of the troubled company to share video clips and photos and air their views. It has achieved a fan base of over 740,000 people.
The group's administrators demand a boycott of BP until 'the spill is cleaned up', also urging followers to shun all global incarnations of the UK oil company such as Castrol, Arco, Aral and Amoco, along with am/pm and Wild Bean Café, the refreshments outlets attached to petrol stations in the US and UK.
BP has denied any involvement in the disappearance of the page.
