Social media surfing accounts for two in every ten minutes spent online according to the latest survey by media monitoring company Nielsen online.
The average social networker spends two thirds more time on these forums than they did a year ago - almost six hours in April 2010 compared to three and a half the same time last year. Social networks are now visited by three quarters of global web users and Facebook remains the undisputed champion of the socialites, with over half of Internet users visiting the site.
Footballing prowess and social networking may go hand in hand, with Brazil, Italy and Spain boasting the most active users of these sites.
