A social media powered website has been launched in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to help people impacted by the disaster to share information and speed the recovery.
The function of Gulfcoastspill.com is to collect images, videos and reports from people impacted by the spill and to speed recovery by crowdsourcing information and making it available to recovery teams.
The website has been developed by the Gulf Coast Spill Coalition, a charity formed in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon spill.
Paul Berger, co-founder of the Gulf Coast Spill Coalition, said: 'Community generated information has the ability to shape the response to the spill. By sharing information on Gulfcoastspill.com people help their entire community and the recovery process as a whole.'
The information is being used by emergency responders, wildlife organisations, educational institutions and volunteer groups who are assisting in the recovery.
Further functionality will be added to the website over time, including tools such as a business income loss calculator.
