PR industry jobs more than double in the beginning of 2010

The number of PR jobs has risen by 210 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 with a particular increase in junior roles, according to a recent study by UK recruiter Major Players.
And there is no sign of the wind changing just yet, with current estimates for this month showing little change from last month at 96 per cent. This restored buoyancy is particularly welcome in the wake of last year's job cuts when the number of PR jobs on the market peaked at 56 per cent of current levels in the third quarter, having dipped to 30 per cent between April and June.
Jon Gloyne, PR divisional head at Major Players, commented: 'It's great news for the industry that this increase indicates a return to business for the sector. Since the start of the year we've seen a dramatic increase in the number of junior roles being briefed by our clients. This is further indication of the market buoyancy we're currently experiencing, in contrast to 2009 figures when agencies lacked the budget to support lower level recruitment.'
