Office design, fitting and refurbishment company Morgan Lovell has gained recognition of its efforts to improve energy efficiency at its London office from the British Standards Institution.
Its sustainability initiatives have included installing smart meters to measure and curb energy usage, technology to power down equipment not in use, lighting units controlled by movement sensors, with a dimming function able to adjust automatically to changing levels of natural light, and a heating and cooling system which distributes heat found loitering in areas that require cooling to places in the office where it is needed.
David Henderson, managing director of Morgan Lovell said: 'We are delighted to achieve a first in the industry with certification to BS EN 16001. As well as cutting costs, improving our building's energy performance has offered a range of tangible benefits, including preparing for the mandatory CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme - and supporting our corporate social responsibility policy.'
