Creative job-seekers tell encouraging tales in the midst of the recession

The state of employment is not quite as dire as many feared, according to a recent survey by recruitment agency Major Players.
From a sample of job-seekers in the marketing and creative industries, 44 per cent felt that the economic crisis had not materially altered their career or lifestyle. However on the darker side, over a quarter said it had resulted in their redundancy.
The majority of respondents were seeking a new job for positive reasons. A third were hoping to climb the professional ladder with a promotion or a pay rise, whilst more than half wanted to explore new career avenues. Only 21 per cent were fearful of their future with their current company.
In spite of cutbacks in funds and personnel, many felt neither overworked nor underpaid in their present jobs. Only one in ten of those surveyed thought they did not receive enough holiday allowance and just two in ten considered themselves undervalued financially. Six out of ten respondents didn't feel overworked at all.
However the shake-up has clearly rattled many, with 41 per cent of those questioned - 15 per cent more than the number who lost their previous job - unsure of when they will feel secure again.
Happily, three quarters of those surveyed felt that stimulating work and a good office atmosphere were more important than earning a high salary.
