An npower-ful deal

Energy supplier npower is to become the title sponsor of the Football League at the end of the current season after signing a reported record three-year £21 million deal.

npower will replace current title sponsors Coca Cola, and is believed to have offered about £3 million more than the drinks company for the honour, although not quite as much as betting firm Coral. The Football League felt a headline association with a betting firm to be inappropriate, according to The Guardian.

The League's flagship competition will be known as the npower Football League, which will be split into the 'npower Championship', 'npower League 1' and 'npower League 2'.

npower is also the official 2018 England World Cup bid sponsor.
