Senior digital communications professionals repay investment, a new salary survey finds

The growing importance of senior digital staff in communications is being recognised with a new survey revealing that associate directors in this field will experience a 20 per cent increase in basic salaries this year.
An associate director specialising in digital media will see their basic salary rise from £50,000 to £60,000, according to new findings from recruitment consultant Major Players.
But the survey also reveals that lower level digital positions have seen their salaries capped. Major Players finds that these positions have become less valuable as, increasingly, all account executives are expected to have basic social media and digital skills.
The findings suggest a shift towards strategic media planning and digital media, with companies rewarding the most senior digital staff and the inclusion of a new salary category for permanent planning jobs, reflecting employers' desire to tie different communications strands, such as PR, social media, digital and advertising, together.
Elsewhere, the survey found little movement in the earnings of PR and communications professionals over the year.
