Almost one in four parents would like to be able to text or correspond with their child's teacher through social networking sites, such as Facebook, according to a new survey.
The YouGov survey, commissioned by Tesco for Schools and Clubs, found that 83 per cent of parents said their main point of contact with teachers is at special parents' evenings while 61 per cent said it was through a note passed on by their child.
However, two thirds of parents said they would like to discuss issues through email while 22 per cent would like to be able to text or swap messages over the Internet.
The survey also found that 58 per cent of teachers would like parents to help more with their child's learning, and more than one third of parents want to be more involved in their youngster's education.
