Aberdeen Council becomes twittering set

Councillors at Aberdeen City are to start tweeting and using social networking sites after a report to the Corporate Policy & Performance Committee suggested that this would make it easier for the council to connect with 'hard to reach groups' by 'communicating with them on their own terms using technologies they are familiar with'.

Marketing manager Victoria Livingstone, who authored the report, said 125 local authorities use Twitter in some form, while 55 posted videos on YouTube and 44 had a Facebook profile.

She added that social networking sites were a 'comfortable fit' with local authorities. 'Both are about building communities and connecting people,' she said.
