Keep children busy
A new social networking initiative to combat boredom among young children has been launched by 20 local authorities. The Plings Boredometer application, which can be downloaded onto Facebook and Bebo, allows young people to advertise just how bored they are. They will receive details of activities in their areas held by their local authorities, and will be able to recommend activities to their friends. Debbie Coombs, integrated content manager at Hull City Council, said: 'In the past we were primarily targeting parents, carers and providers, so we weren't really youth focused.' The application, she said, has 'allowed us to engage with young people in a more exciting way'.
