A significant proportion of small business owners are wary of the security risks that come with online networking even though it can play a key role in running a successful business, according to the second annual Business Networking Trends Survey.
The survey, conducted by WeCanDo.BIZ Ltd, reported that 80 per cent of respondents have won business by networking online, while nearly a quarter of small businesses are now communicating through Twitter. Over half the respondents said they plan to increase their online networking over the coming year.
But 39 per cent of small business professionals are hesitant to use Facebook for business, avoiding adding business contacts as 'friends', while two thirds have general concerns about security and integrity. Just under half prefer to stick to sites developed specifically for business networking when it comes to communicating with their professional contacts.
