Warwickshire County Council has launched a live update on the location of its gritters on Twitter to keep residents informed.
WarwickWinter, which currently has 39 followers, has issued more than 2,100 tweets since its launch this week, detailing the locations of the 33 gritting lorries and their directions.
The gritting tweets following the launch of a Twitter service to keep parents and carers informed of emergency school closures within Warwickshire. The council has previously used a free school closure text message service, which sends an SMS to all users when schools have had to close due to adverse weather conditions or staff shortages.
Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council's portfolio holder for the environment, said: 'Our new gritter Twitter is an interesting use of the latest technology, keeping people updated as to where the gritters are at any point.'
