Dozens of Facebook groups have been set up by Scottish residents to protest about the lack of grit across the country, while others urge people to not pay their council tax in protest.
The protest groups, which highlight West Lothian Council, Aberdeen City Council, Fife Council and Midlothian Council as the worst offenders, are gaining in popularity as First Minister Alex Salmond admitted that grit supplies will have to be rationed.
Scotland had 45,000 tonnes of salted grit left on Wednesday, which is enough to last for ten days in a normal winter. Salmond said that gritters would concentrate on 'arterial and main roads'.
The West Lothian Taxpayers for Gritted Streets and Filled Grit Bins Facebook page has almost 1,700 members, protesters, with many protestors adding their tales of woe and pictures to the site.
The Grantown on Spey Highland Council Tax Strike has also been launched on Facebook, with members complaining that roads and pavements have not been cleared while refuse has been left uncollected.
Grantown on Spey, which is at the centre of the Scottish Highlands, has 4,200 miles of roads, making it the country's longest network within Scotland.
