Britain's Supreme Court is to beginning tweeting today using the microblogging site to issue real time updates on judgements.
The move is said to be an extension of the court's commitment to making its proceedings as accessible as possible.
Britain's Supreme Court has permitted the use of Twitter in courtrooms since February last year
A spokesman for the Supreme Court said it is working to get the service up and running before justices prepare their judgment in WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's extradition appeal, the most high profile case the court has heard since its opening in 2009.
'Twitter provides a channel to rapidly publish the outcome of this case, and others, to a large number of interested parties in a timely and efficient manner,' Wilson said.
The initial tweets will include live updates of the swearing-in of the new justice, Lord Reed.
The ceremony, which starts at 11.30am today, will attempt to explain the proceedings to people watching a video stream of the event, which will be broadcast on the internet.
'The court understands it is the first Supreme Court in the world to do so,' a spokesman said.
The account will be managed by the Court's communications team.
