KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially launched its 'Meet and Seat' service, which allows passengers to scope out fellow travellers and select a seat mate before boarding their aircraft.
The 'Meet and Seat' service allows online check-in passengers to sift through other travellers' Facebook and LinkedIn profiles to decide who they would like to sit next to during the flight, but passengers will be given the opportunity to opt-out of the service if they do not wish to take part, and can choose not to make their public profile available.
The KLM Meet and Seat service starts with a pilot project on flights from Amsterdam to San Francisco, New York and São Paulo. Shortly afterwards, the airline says it will roll out to other intercontinental destinations.
The airline has issued a new video to promote its service and provide more information.
Erik Varwijk, managing director of KLM, said: 'With Meet & Seat, KLM takes social networking a step forward. This new service connects passengers and aims to give them a more inspirational journey.'
