India is now the top Facebook nation outside of North America, knocking Indonesia off the top spot, with more than 43.4 million users - or roughly the population of Kenya.
Indonesia was pipped at the post by a narrow margin, and it now has just over 43 million users.
More than two fifths of online Indians are active Facebook users.
According to statistics from www.checkfacebook.com, Britain is the seventh largest nation on Facebook, preceded by Brazil, Mexico and Turkey in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively. The Philippines, France and Germany follow in eighth, ninth and tenth position.
However, according to the site Brazil has seen the fastest growth in users over the past week, followed by India in second position and Indonesia in third. Britain does not feature in the top ten fastest growing over the past week.
Facebook now has a global audience of more than 812 million users.
