Giraffe Bread is hitting the shelves today in Sainsbury's stores across the country, after an overwhelming majority of consumers agreed that Tiger Bread bore a closer resemblance to a giraffe.
The supermarket chain was first alerted to this important matter by three and a half year old Lily Robinson, who wrote a letter asking: 'Why is Tiger Bread called Tiger Bread? It should be called giraffe bread.'
Chris King, who at the time was a member of the Sainsbury's customer service team, responded to the letter and said: 'Renaming tiger bread giraffe bread is a brilliant idea - it looks much more like the blotches on a giraffe than the stripes on a tiger, doesn't it?'
King also enclosed a £3 gift card for Lily so that she could buy her own Tiger Bread.
Lily's mum posted a photo of the correspondence on her blog, and it soon went viral on the social networks and started 'trending' on Twitter.
Sainsbury's is now inviting customers to send an email to its customer services department if they think that the newly named Giraffe Bread should be here to stay.
