The average journalist using Facebook Subscribe has seen a 320 per cent increase in subscribers since November, according to research conducted by Facebook.
Facebook looked at 25 local, national and international journalists from various media who are using the Facebook Subscribe facility.
The social networking site also analysed the types of posts to determine the kinds of posts that generate the most interaction.
Commentary and analysis on current events and breaking news receives three times as many 'likes' and twice as many shares as the average post. Highlighting controversial stories on contested subject matter can, according to Facebook, double the number of likes and shares the post receives.
Facebook said powerful photos can double engagement levels in terms of likes, comments and shares.
Facebook Subscribe was launched last September in an attempt to compete with Twitter by allowing journalists to use their personal profiles to share updates and links with the public.
The feature lets Facebook users visit another user's profile and subscribe to receive the person's public updates in their news feed, without actually being a Facebook connection. The feature lets Facebook users broadcst public messages to subscribers in a similar fashion to Twitter, while also keeping private networks separate.
Subscribers can choose how many and what type of updates they want to see from each person.
