A new social media campaign has been launched today by consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G), to push forward its Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) programme.
The '1 Like = 1 Day of Clean Drinking Water' Facebook campaign will see every 'Like' received on P&G's CSDW page turned into a day's worth of safe drinking water in a developing country where it is most needed.
The campaign allows users to see stories, photos and video footage of people whose lives have been impacted by the CSDW programme, and the work that P&G does with partners worldwide to distribute the purification products.
P&G has been sharing clean drinking water in countries around the world for seven years with its P&G Purifier of Water packets that contain a unique purification powder. To date, more than four billion litres of water have been purified, which has saved an estimated 22,000 lives.
P&G's goal is to save one life every hour by 2020. Bob McDonald, chief executive officer of P&G, said: 'This [Facebook campaign] is one simple, but meaningful way for people all over the world to help us touch and improve lives by sharing clean drinking water.'
The consumer goods company has also launched a new interactive website (www.csdw.org) as part of the CSDW programme where users can read blogs and stay up-to-date with P&G's efforts around the globe.
The CSDW Programme runs in more than 65 countries worldwide to help transform unclean water into drinkable water.
