Almost one in five people do not find information from QR (Quick Response) codes useful while more than two fifths have mixed views on them, according to a report by Chadwick Martin Bailey.
A massive 79 per cent of those surveyed had never heard of a QR code and almost one fifth had never seen one.
According to the report, half of smartphone users have never even scanned a QR code. Of those who do scan, more than half did nothing with the information they received. Seven per cent of respondents said that they find it difficult to actually scan the codes.
Magazines and newspapers were found to be the top sources for people who have scanned a code.
Almost half of those surveyed said that they scan QR codes purely out of curiosity, while almost a fifth did so to receive a special discount. Just six per cent use the codes to make a purchase.
One respondent said: 'I've used it [a QR code] once and haven't been in a situation where I have felt the need to use it again. I don't think I will ever need it, but it makes getting information more convenient.'
