Canada's government has agreed to lift its ban on tweeting election results before polls have closed throughout the country.
The announcement was made by democratic reform minister Tim Uppal via Twitter, who declared that the 70-year-old ban had been lifted from the section of the Canada Elections Act that prohibits the broadcast of election results before all ballots have been cast.
This move comes after last year's elections where tweeters rebelled against the ban, and tweeted the results from East Canada before votes had been cast in the West.
Uppal said in a tweet that it was important for the Canadian elections to be brought into the 21st Century, by removing an outdated law that could no longer be enforced.
