All 50 Scarborough Borough councillors may soon be kitted out with iPads in an attempt to cut down on the piles of paper currently used to post council meeting agendas.
Ian Anderson, head of legal and support services at Scarborough Borough Council, has put forward a proposal to be debated today to provide all councillors with tablet devices.
The move to electronic documents could save the council up to £10,000 annually in paper, printing and postage costs.
Laptops have previously been made available to assist councillors in their roles, but the council believes that tablet devices are more user friendly, lighter in weight and more useful because they have 3G which allows them to be used almost anywhere.
Anderson said: 'The council is always looking at providing efficient methods of communications with its elected members and the introduction of tablet devices is the next phase of development in doing this. The provision of this equipment will radically cut down on the production of paper agendas...and will provide a more efficient way for councillors to work.'
