Members of the Metropolitan Police force are tweeting from a new account specifically for helicopter pilots this week in an attempt to reduce the number of helicopter-related noise complaints.
It is hoped the new @MPSinthesky account will help appease residents by keeping Londoners updated with the work the police force is doing from the sky.
The account has tweeted just 60 times but already has more than 4,600 followers since it launched on Tuesday.
Tweets describe the areas of London where the police helicopters are operating and the kinds of suspects the police are pursuing.
The Twitter account already mentions areas such as Haringey, Enfield, Dagenham, Collindale, Croydon, Havering, Barking, Lewisham and Hillingdon. Incidents reported via the account include searching for robbery suspects, pursuing vehicles and searching for injured people.
Insp Phil Whitelaw, head of the Air Support Unit, said: 'I'm certain @MPSinthesky will play a vital role in helping Londoners understand why we were - or are - working in a particular area.'
The Met Police force is not the first force to be tweeting from the sky, West Midlands Police helicopters have been tweeting since March last year, and its @WMP_Helicopter account now has more than 8,100 followers.
