More than 242 million downloaded on Christmas Day alone

More than 1.2 billion apps were downloaded during the recent 'holiday week' including a record 242 million apps on Christmas Day, according to research by mobile application analytics firm Flurry.
The billion plus downloads represents a 60 per cent increase on the average weekly figures for December.
Flurry found that North America, China and the UK accounted for almost half the downloads, with the US taking a 42.3 per cent share of the total with about 590 million downloads. China, which has the second largest app market in the world, accounted for 99 million downloads, while the UK was responsible for 81 million.
The peak time for downloads on Christmas Day was 8pm across the globe, with 15 million apps hourly downloads between 7pm and 9pm, and by 9am hourly downloads had already exceeded ten million.
Flurry's research found that on an average day in December, which is classed as between 1st and 20th, there were 108 million downloads, with a peak of more than eight million downloads at 9pm.
