KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is to allow passengers to choose who they sit next to on flights, by accessing other passengers' social media profiles.
The 'meet and seat' service will allow the online check-in passengers to sift through other travellers' Facebook and LinkedIn profiles to decide who they would like to sit next to during the flight.
The service could encourage people with similar interests to become seat-mates, which could reduce the risk of being sat next to a tedious companion on long flights.
Passengers will be given the opportunity to opt-out of the service if they do not wish to take part, and can choose not to make their public profile available.
The airline confirmed that it plans to launch the service from the beginning of next year.
Other airlines embracing social media include Malaysia Airlines, which is set to launch a Facebook service that will allow passengers to see if any of their friends are on the same flight.
