Homeless charity Crisis has received over 30 per cent more volunteer applications for its annual Christmas event than this time last year, thanks to a new online portal created by technology firm Totally Communications.
The 'Crisis at Christmas Volunteer Community' has attracted hoards of volunteers who want to lend a helping hand during the festive period. The organisers say the web application cuts out the need for time-consuming paperwork, and allows users to view their shifts and communicate with other volunteers.
At the annual 'Crisis at Christmas' event, volunteers help to deliver vital services to homeless people, including meals, optician appointments, arts, crafts and activities.
Andy Margolis, managing director of Totally Communications, said: 'Crisis has already experienced some true measurable success since the portal went live, and there is more to come. Once the volunteer operation is fully under way, Crisis centres benefit from full attendance monitoring and access to operational data in real-time.'
Prospective volunteers can register via the Crisis at Christmas Volunteer Community site.
