Apple's internal social media policy has been leaked following the dismissal of former employee Samuel Crisp, who was fired for posting on Facebook.

Crisp claimed unfair dismissal after he was found to have publicly criticised his iPhone in a series of Facebook posts but he lost his case due to Apple's stringent internal social media policy.

The leaked policy relates to issues which include social networking, blogging, trade secrets, speculation and business policies.

'Remember there may be consequences to what you post or publish online including discipline if you engage in conduct that Apple deems inappropriate or violates any Apple policies,' the leaked policy said.

Apple's policy states that any posts to the social networking site Facebook that are negative about Apple could lead to either disciplinary consequences or dismissal.

The technology giant requires that its workers are respectful on social media platforms. They must not post inflammatory comments about their audience, co-workers, Apple products or their employers.

Apple allows its employees to have personal websites, but they are prohibited from discussing Apple in any way on their site. Workers are also prohibited from commenting on any Apple-related sites.

All employees are provided with an @apple.com email address which is not to be used for personal purposes, but they are also given an @me.com address specifically for personal use.

All employees have an obligation to protect all confidential trade secret information concerning the company and they are not permitted to speculate on rumours relating to Apple.
