Walmart's tech shop @WalmartLabs has launched a new Facebook app that recommends gifts for the user to buy for their friends, based on consumers' social media activity.
The 'Shopycat' app extracts data from social networkers' Facebook profiles, and matches their interests to a catalogue of selected products based on the information it gathers. The list will provide ideas depending on the user's budget, and will then direct them to the products either online or in-store.
The app matches users with products from various sites, which include walmart.com, bookseller Barnes & Noble and gifts store RedEnvelope.
The 'Shopycat' app can be accessed via Walmart's Facebook page, which has more than 10.5 million fans.
