Nissan Australia is facing a backlash on social media after it awarded a car worth A$20,000 (£12,500) as a prize in a Facebook competition to the best friend of the employee who managed it.
The Japanese car company announced that Zac Martin had won the 'Micraspotting' competition, in which users had to find hidden pictures of cars on particular Facebook pages.
It was later discovered that Martin described Simon Oboler, the Nissan employee running the competition, as his 'BFF' (best friend forever) in his blog.
A runners-up prize voucher worth A$1250 (£800) was won by Nina Igel, another friend of Oboler.
Nissan's Facebook fans were outraged at the decision, despite the statement from Nissan claiming that everything that happened was 'fully above board'.
One user wrote: 'Dodgy Nissan, runs a Facebook competition for a free car and they give it to the friend of the person who runs the page. Have decided not to buy my wife a Nissan Micra, I'll buy her a Toyota Corolla now. Nissan = Dodgy.'
