Insurance giant Aviva took home three CorpComms Awards last night, including the Grand Prix for best overall communications for its 'You are the big picture' campaign.
The campaign also won the insurer two further awards for best communications by a private sector organisation and best use of digital media as part of a communications strategy.
'You are the big picture' invited people to post their images through Facebook and a dedicated website before projecting these images on landmark buildings in six major cities across the globe.
The judges were united in their praise of the campaign, describing it as 'ballsy' and 'truly excellent in every way'.
The week long campaign generated almost 300 pieces of positive coverage, of which 96 per cent mentioned projections and 82 per cent mentioned youarethebigpicture.com or facebook.com/aviva.
Other winners on the night included Centrica, who took home the best in-house team award, beating fellow shortlisted entrants Debenhams, Jupiter Fund Mangement, O2 and Westminster City Council.
London 2012's director of communications and public affairs Jackie Brock-Doyle scooped the award for corporate communications professional of the year. She was praised for her tenacity and consistency in the lead up to London's Olympic and Paralympic games.
As the judges said: 'The mood has changed towards the Olympics. People are definitely more positive, and much of that has to be down to the communications. Even the anger about ticket sales appeared to disappear relatively quickly.'
Brock-Doyle's experience has certainly played a role. In the run up to the Sydney 2000 Games, she created and directed communications campaigns for both the Olympics and Paralympics, and helped create campaigns for leading sponsors to leverage the opportunity.
The best crisis management award went to Hudson Sandler for its handling of the electrocution of two horses at the Totesport Trophy Hurdle Meeting in February of this year.
The tragedy was broadcast live on Channel 4 Racing. Newbury Racecourse had to immediately cancel the day's meeting, launch an investigation and communicate with multiple audiences, including its corporate partners, the racing industry and all those connected with the horses that had died. 'It was classic crisis management under pressure,' said the judges.
Five hundred UK communicators enjoyed entertainment from Greek dancers Stavros Flatley, who opened the evening with their winning 'Britain's Got Talent' performance. Comedian Alun Cochrane hosted the awards, which were held at the Troxy.
