Twitter will play host to the first ever social media Remembrance Day service on Friday, which will include readings, hymns and contributions from war veterans.
A group of Methodists came up with the idea for the Tweet Remembrance project, with the aim of connecting traditional prayer and worship with digital technology, for those who are unable to attend a church service. The organisers also hope to attract those who would not usually attend a service at all to follow via @Poppy_Tweet.
The service will offer traditional Remembrance Day aspects in a modern setting. Hymns and readings will be condensed into 140 characters, the last post will be described via tweets, a two minute silence will be observed, and music will be courtesy of YouTube. The organisers said: 'The service is intended to be ecumenical and all people of any faith are welcome to take part.'
A recent tweet from @Poppy_Tweet read: 'Things are getting a bit manic over here! The Order of Service is being compiled, hymns are being chosen and prayers being written...' The service will commence at 10.15am and will be led by Reverend Joanne Cox. A second service will be held on Sunday.
