Southern Water has launched a new gaming app to provide users with simple tips about how to save water and energy.
The app features a digital character called Peter the Meter who also stars in a short film. The film, A day in the life of a water meter, aims to teach viewers about how to be more water and energy efficient around the home, which will ultimately save them money.
The Peter the Meter app is made up of 11 games, including Wash the Mop in which users must wash the hair of a cartoon character as fast as possible to save water. In Clean the Car, users must wash a virtual car with a bucket and sponge instead of a hose.
Fill the Drum teaches users to always fill up the washing machine to be more economical. And Dive the Depths invites users to fit a 'save-a-flush' bag in their toilet cistern to save water with each flush.
Julie Carly, communications manager for Southern Water, said: 'A lot of thought and hard work has gone into making the film and the app, but it's also been a lot of fun. We're sure that customers will really enjoy them and also take on board the advice they include.'
The app is part of Southern Water's five year work programme to help secure water resources across its area of operation, which stretches across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The free app is available for download on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, and can be accessed via www.southernwater.co.uk/metering.
