X-Factor judge Simon Cowell has said that he wants fans to use microblogging site Twitter to vote for their favourite contestants during the US version of the talent show.
From 2 November, fans will be able to vote for their favourite act by sending a direct message on Twitter to the official X-Factor account.
The music mogul believes more votes will come in as a result of revising the voting process: 'It's a sign of the times,' Cowell said. 'Sites like Twitter and Facebook give (the audience) a much bigger voice.'
The less technologically literate will still be able to vote in the usual way: by sending a text or picking up the phone.
Cowell has also mooted plans to join Twitter himself once he learns 'how to type quicker'.
The US show has so far averaged a disappointing 12.5 million viewers an episode.
