Australians may soon be able to make payments via social networking site Facebook, if the Commonwealth Bank of Australia's (CBA) latest mobile payments app is approved by Apple.
The Kaching app, which uses near-field communications technology, would also allow users to make payments via email, but would only work for Apple iPhone iOS4.3 owners. Should the first-of-its-kind app be approved, it is hoped that the CBA's app would be available to its Internet banking customers shortly after release.
The app is designed to ease the frustrations relating to the traditional methods of payment. Kaching will allow transfers between bank accounts and will also allow users to pay bills.
The app would be protected with password encryption technology, which will safeguard users' personal banking details in the event that their phone is lost or stolen.
