Ram cam now broadcasting on ewe-tube

Ever wondered what a rampant ram gets up to during 'tupping season'? Well you need wonder no more. A video camera has been attached to the horn of Cambridgeshire-based ram Peacland Paolo, in time for his meeting with 30 to 40 expectant (or soon to be) ewes.

The footage from ram cam is posted on YouTube, as part of a project that has been dubbed 'ewe-tube'. The farm behind the campaign is trying to educate the general public on the goings on at a farm, which calls itself: 'a big online experiment in farming and food production.' The official My Farm blog, which is run by the National Trust, said: 'It's safe to say Paolo has done us proud!'

The farm's YouTube channel has already received more than 2,800 views.

There is however a warning for people of a sheepish disposition: 'CAUTION: Ram cam contains footage of a ram running, eating and...doing what comes naturally to a ram when in a field of 30 ewes 'in season'.'

Ewe-tube watchers will see footage of the ram being unleashed from the farmer's van and charging at the unsuspecting females. The woolly stallion has a chest covered in blue dye so that the farmer can tell which ewes have been impregnated. And it doesn't take long before there are a few ladies with blue backs.

Paolo is expected to get to know between two and three ewes every day as he is a quite a young buck. Viewers can learn that an experienced ram can visit up to eight ewes a day.

The hope is that by the end of his four to six week stint, all of the ewes will be expecting.

This ram cam idea is all part of the fun at MyFarm, which has numerous events that can be followed by the public, such as 'Lambing Live'. Up to 300 lambs are expected to be born live in 2012 as part of the scheme.

Ram cam can be followed via the #ramcam hashtag and also via #ewetube.
