No more will prospective students have to wade through a boring weighty tome before they choose a new college, with the launch of a new guidebook with augmented reality features.
The augumented reality guidebook has been created by staff at Kendal College in Cumbria. Prospective students must download the free Kendal College app and hold their smartphones up to certain pages to see the features. The innovative guidebook, the first of its kind in the UK, was designed by Danial Hodge, head of digital media at the college.
The app includes videos, pictures and interviews with students who are currently at the college to give the new students a real idea of what the college is actually like. It provides prospective students with an interactive guide to college life.
Hodge told the Westmoreland Gazette: 'We're really excited to be at the forefront of such an impressive technology. In a few months time this will be everywhere so we're really pleased to be the first ones using it in this way. Mobile phone technology is an important part of our students' life, they get their music from it, videos from it, and with the new prospectus potential students are experiencing far more than just reading the words.'
