Almost eight out of ten student Facebook users are unable to go 24 hours without checking their accounts, according to a recent survey
The All Facebook survey produced by Coed magazine and student website College Candy, revealed the addictive nature of the social networking site. Four out of ten students admitted to checking their Facebook account before brushing their teeth in the morning with many respondents saying they are increasingly concerned by their growing dependence on the site.
Nearly three quarters of those asked said that they would delete their profiles and close their accounts if the site became a paid service.
One fifth of respondents have deleted their profiles and then signed up again, which demonstrates how difficult it is for students to keep away from social networking.
More than half of the students said that they were angry that privacy settings existed on the site, because it prevents them from snooping around photos to see what an ex-partner's new partner looks like.
As many as 65 per cent said that they would be embarrassed if other users could see how many times that they had viewed a specific person's profile.
Almost half of those surveyed admitted to having been 'tagged' in photos that show that they are obviously intoxicated.
The online survey involved 2,500 students.
