The Coca-Cola brand has the most fans on Facebook, according to recent research by search engine marketing agency Covario.
Coca-Cola narrowly beat Hyundai. MTV, Disney and Bayer came in third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Coca-Cola has more than 34 million fans, and its Facebook fan base is increasing at a rate of three per cent each month. The research found that each comment posted by the beverage brand earns up to 1,750 'likes' and generates more than 200 comments.
Covario researched which companies advertise their brands the most effectively, and found that those who gained more than 750 comments and 1,500 'likes' were the most successful.
The world's largest retailer Walmart ranked top for overall engagement, especially with its Facebook fans. And it receives an average of more than 7,300 comments and more than 700 'likes' for every wall post. It recently launched 3,500 store specific Facebook pages to allow customers to engage with their local shop, and find out about specific offers.
The research found that Apple is the only company in the list of America's top 100 advertisers who does not have an official Facebook page. However, it has more than 188,000 fans on an unofficial page.
A statement released by Covario said: 'Less is more with Facebook. Quality is what counts.'
