A new Twitter service has been launched by Gloucestershire council that will allow locals to check which roads have been gritted, as the met office suggests temperatures will plunge and snow is on its way.
It will provide regular weather updates and information about road conditions and gritting activity.
The service came as a response to locals who wanted to feel reassured that the council was making steps towards treating the roads to make them safer, during severe weather conditions over the past few years.
Gloucestershire's salt stocks have increased to more than 11,000 tonnes, a rise of more than 1,600 tonnes since last year, with the installation of two new salt storage domes.
Over the winter months, the council grits A and B roads, and also some C roads which lead to emergency services.
Nottinghamshire county council launched a gritter Twitter service last year in response to the bad weather, and Worcestershire council, Warwickshire council, Staffordshire council and Hertfordshire council have all done the same.
