The CIPR has launched a new guide to intellectual property rights aimed specifically at PR professionals.
The guidance has been written to provide its members with information on how to correctly use protected materials and how to protect their own creative content. It also includes information to help PR professionals understand the risk of infringing others' intellectual property rights.
The guidelines have been written by Peter Prowse, chair of the IP Awareness Network (IPAN). The guidelines are based on contributions from a roundtable held in March.
Prowse commented: 'The CIPR gets more calls to its legal helpline about intellectual property than about anything else. It's a complex area and it may often appear that the law is struggling to keep up with technology and public attitudes. But, as with other areas of the law, ignorance is no defence. This new guidance flags up those aspects of IP law that PR practitioners really should know about and take heed of'.
