Domino's pizza has proven how effective mobile commerce can be after it saw £130,000 worth of orders made via its iPhone, iPad and Android apps in just one day.
Mobile sales amounted to 13 per cent of total sales made on that day.
Domino's iPhone app, which offers '1.8 billion pizza combinations in the palm of your hand', helped process more than £1 million of orders between September 2010 and January 2011. Orders made via the app accounted for more than a third of its deliveries in the UK over that period, which is an increase of eight per cent from the figures recorded in 2009.
Chris Moore, chief executive of Domino's Pizza, said: 'When we launched online ordering just over a decade ago, it was a huge investment, but one that has continued to pay off. To put this achievement in context, 12 years ago we took £100,000 in online sales in a year, by 2000 we were taking £1 million in a year and now we are taking £1 million in a day. Now that's progress!'
