Almost one third of chief financial officers (CFOs) are either rarely involved with or not involved at all with their company's sustainability scheme or its governance, according to a recent report by consultants Deloitte.
Just three out of ten CFOs believe that sustainability would have an effect on activities relating to mergers and acquisitions. While almost half of the CFOs revealed that they are planning capital investments in order to fund sustainability initiatives.
Just one third considered themselves to be fully engaged in a sustainability strategy and governance. A fifth of the CFOs said that they aim to engage in sustainability activities over the next two years.
Despite these results, 70 per cent of those surveyed said that they engage with sustainability for tactical reasons which include the effect it can have on activities relating to finance, such as risk management and financial auditing.
The survey involved more than 200 CFOs from around the globe.
