Just over half of financial communications professionals report directly to the chief executive or finance director and 75 per cent are confident that communications has been prioritised by their senior management, according to a new survey.
But nine per cent report to a chief marketing officer and, of these, only half felt that communications was a priority for senior management. Three per cent report to a chief human resources officer.
The survey of more than 210 senior financial service professionals, which was conducted on behalf of search consultants VMA Group, found that 94 per cent of those working in investment and wholesale banking felt that communications was now a priority for senior management. This has risen since the 2008 crash.
Financial service communications professionals are most concerned with retaining public reputation and client satisfaction, but they claim that developing and maintaining strong communications strategies against an ever changing regulatory environment has become a major challenge.
