Citizens Advice has partnered with foursquare to educate users on social issues as they check into selected locations around the country.
The charity has so far listed 41 locations on its public foursquare page, including four in Birmingham, https://foursquare.com/citizensadvice and plans to add similar insights in Liverpool and Manchester in advance of the Labour and Conservative party conferences over the coming weeks.
The service is focused on the country's most popular check in locations and already includes 20 tips from across London. Conference goers at this week's Liberal Democrat Party conference will also be able to take advantage of the campaign.
Liberal Democrat conferences attendees in Birmingham this week can learn that:
'Birmingham has one of the highest rates of unemployment and deprivation in the UK...'
While visitors passing through well-heeled areas such as South Kensington can find out that clients in the area 'came to us with an average of four problems each, above the national average of just over three.'
Swindon, Tyne & Wear and Middlesbrough are also featured.
Assistant press and public affairs officer Nick Stanton put the campaign together over the past seven days.
'I went to my boss with the idea last Monday, it was very easy to do, we already had all the data and users can access the information without having an account,' Stanton said.
The charity is seeking to emulate similar campaigns run by Shelter in Scotland and The Foreign Office, which launched a travel advisory service aimed at Birmingham Football fans checking into Birmingham airport.
