A new app that allows social media users to see if any of their friends or followers happen to be in the same room, has just added LinkedIn to its list of networks.
The 'Sonar' app tells the user which of their contacts are at the same place and also how they are connected.
The app launched in May, and initially only worked for Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. More than 60,000 messages have since been posted via Sonar.
The introduction of LinkedIn makes the app more useful to professionals, who will be able to see if any of their connections are at the same work functions even if they have not spotted them in the room.
To date, just 17 per cent of mobile users use check-in services which include Foursquare or Facebook Places.
Sonar is currently free for download from the Apple app store.
