Facebook to help school leavers get work

A new challenge that will target youths leaving school with the goal of getting them into work will be launched on Facebook, by The Department for Work and Pensions.

The 'Seven-Day Jobs Challenge' Facebook scheme is designed to inspire youths who have just finished their A levels to get jobs, and it will run for seven days from 18 August.

The school leavers will be invited to 'Like' the Facebook page, and will have access to advice that will aim to boost their chances of being hired for a job.

Levi Roots, known for his 'Reggae Reggae Sauce', will be among the celebrities who will provide advice and information on how to become an entrepreneur. And information will also be provided that will guide the users on how best to put together a CV.

Daily discussion boards will also feature on the Facebook page, which will provide extra handy tips and information to further the user's chances of finding a job.

This scheme is designed to help those who want to be employed but have struggled to do so, or they may not know best to start the process. The main objective is to provide help and information, and prevent more young people from having to unnecessarily claim Jobseeker's allowance.

Jobseeker's allowance has soared in the UK, despite the 500,000 jobs vacancies. And in May there were 429,000 18 to 24 year olds who claimed, which is 3,600 more than the same time last year. In Wales last year, there were almost 16,000 18 to 24 year olds who claimed Jobseeker's allowance.

In order for anyone to go 'on the dole', they must agree to call and visit in person a set number of companies each week. A limit of 16 hours work a week is set, and educational courses may be included in the limit, as the government says that too many hours taken up will affect someone's chances of finding a job.
