A new guide to help journalists use Twitter effectively in the reporting and publishing process, has been launched by the microblogging site itself.
The Twitter for Newsrooms (#TfN) resource is aimed at journalists who use Twitter to research and share information on a report, but may not be getting the most out of it.
The site is useful for journalists at any level, and is designed to explain any confusing Twitter-related questions. It is designed to help journalists do their job faster and more easily. For example in the '#engage' section of the site, it says: ' Twitter's @Support team has put together a glossary of key terms. From the basics (# and @) to tools (lists and URL shorteners) to features like Trending Topics, you can catch up or point your colleagues here.'
The guide is in four sections and each contains content that aims to optimise journalists' reporting potential. The first is '#report', which includes: 'A strategy for Search', 'Finding Sources' and 'Mobile Tips'. The '#engage' section advises on 'Effective Tweeting' and 'Branding'. The '#publish' section provides journalistic 'Tools' and information on 'Display Guidelines' and '#extra' includes 'Support Forms' and blogs.
Milton Valencia, reporter at the Boston Globe Metro newspaper, already embraces Twitter as a tool to share reports and he tweeted:'@perk4prez' HI. #Dimasi wasn't convicted of embezzlement, it was extortion. Pros. Say supports the honest services conv. Defense disagrees', from the newsroom.
