Lloyds TSB is inviting the public to nominate a special someone who has made a difference in their community, to give them the chance of carrying the London 2012 Olympic Flame.
Lloyds Bank, national presenting partner of the London 2012 Olympics, has planned a summer tour around the UK, with the Olympic torch taking centre stage. The 80-day 'Olympic Torch Relay' tour offers members of the public the chance to have their photo taken with the Olympic torch, play various interactive games, and learn about its history.
The tour, which starts on 9 June, will stop at more than 70 different communities, while the nominations continue.
Olympian, champion track cyclist, and London 2012 ambassador, Sir Chris Hoy, who launched the scheme, said: 'I urge everyone to nominate and recognise the people who've made a difference to their local community.'
And to kick-off the nomination process, he revealed his own nominations - World War Two veteran Andy Coogan, who was once an award winning runner, and cyclist and coach Geoff Cooke, whose competitive and coaching career stretched 70 years.
Fellow ambassador Mark Foster, who retired from competitive swimming after the 2008 Olympics, nominated Anne Hardcastle, who taught him to swim at a pool in Southend-on-Sea.
Foster said: 'There are unsung heroes across all corners of the UK, whether it's your neighbour who is always helping others in the community, a teacher who runs the after school clubs or the mum who runs a marathon to raise money for charity. We all know someone who has made a difference and who deserves this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the London 2012 Olympic Flame.'
